Now in 2010 we do not have a JBA Factory producing any vehicle that has been evaluated in any articles in the various Kit Car Press magazines or approved by VOSA BIVA testing.
Please note these are the old build pages from 1999 to 2004 when we had a JBA Factory in full production from 1982 that was regularly featured in the Kit Car Press and complied with regulations including passing UK Vosa SVA/BIVA tests and TUV tests in the EU.
A 2004 JBA Engineering Ltd Sports SR kit has passed the new BIVA test in June 2009.

When building your JBA Falcon you are
putting a lot of effort and money into your project.
Choose your other parts and suppliers carefully. If buying from
stalls at shows pick a supplier that you will be able to contact
throughout the year, someone who will be around next year and not from a
stall that you may never hear of, or see again.
Many owners and builders of all types of kit cars will descend on their
"Mecca"
the Stoneleigh Kit Car show each May in order to buy parts for their project, even
although these might not be fitted to their cars for quite some
considerable time.
If you are attending a show and need a special part,
contact the supplier and they will bring it to the show, saving you
postage costs.
The named suppliers I list on this website, are all established companies,
renowned for their efficiency and integrity. All have a Mail Order
facility.
Side
Lamps
All the Lights used must be E
marked or equivalent.
Follow the instructions in
the Build Manual. As all lights have to be set to specific heights and
distances.
We made sure the Falcon was sitting level and started with the side
lamps, these were Lucas chrome ones with a two hole fixing from Tony
Stafford now Stafford Vehicle Components and SVC for short.
Part Number 1130 with various options.
We placed the lamps on the wings and made sure that one of the
holes would be drilled right through the wing support bracket, this
secures the wing to the support bracket at the same time. In our case
it was the front one. We fitted one side, remembering to drill a third
hole for the wiring, then took the measurement from this one and
repeated it on the other wing.
At this time
June 2003, sidelamps can be used with an amber lens, instead of having
separate front flashers, providing that the headlamps are fitted with a
sidelamp capability. All the lamps including spot lamps on Doug's
Falcon above were supplied by SVC.

May 2004. An new innovation from
SVC
on their 1130
sidelamps is to have the sidelamp and flasher in one unit.
1130 TORPEDO LIGHT CONVERSION KIT -
Safer motoring with our kit, giving an amber turn signal. Front mounted
push fit bulbs - 5w side light AND amber 21w turn signal bulb, designed to
fit easily into original type or die cast 1130 bodies. £35
per set (two assemblies) + £4 P&P. Spare bulbs
readily available from us. A product unique to SVC!
Head
Lamps.
I used the chrome ones, again from
SVC. A complete wiring harness for these headlamps is available.
These took a wee while to position one of us holding the lamp in place the
other checking the visual effect and checking the measurements in the back
pages of the manual. The problem here was that the measurements suit the
bowls supplied by JBA, but the chrome lights sit far too high so needed
moving forward further down the wing.
Once we had one head lamp set up it was a
simple matter of transferring the measurements on to the other wing. The
lamps were then bolted to the wings using large strong spreading washers
underneath to help support the lamps and protect the
wing. Doug added a triangular polished stainless steel plate on top of his
wing to help spread the load. I think he saw this idea on Pete Henstock's
sports.
JBA
supply Headlamp bowls in the kit for fitting to the wings. Keith fitted
them to the wings following the measurements in the manual. It is a three
bolt fixing with another hole drilled for the wiring.
These require a lens unit and chrome rim to complete the installation,
which Keith purchased from SVC along with the rest of his lamps apart from
the two spot lamps which were bought at an Autojumble.
1993
Sports Photo Non Opening Boot
With
The Old Style Rear Lamp Mouldings
Rear Lamps and
Flashers.
The rear lamps used, once again from
SVC,
were the Hillman Imp style with the chrome rim ( because I owned an Imp and loved it )
separate Stop/Tail on one lamp and a Flasher the other lamp. Part number L691.
A better photo of them is shown on Keith's Falcon below.
These round reflectors have now to be fitted in a vertical
position, as they would not pass an SVA test if they are fitted
sloping like above.
Nowadays the new rear lamp mouldings are
already fitted to the JBA rear wings address this situation, as can be
seen in Keith's photo below.
These have to be drilled to fit the lamp units, with an additional hole
drilled for
the wiring cable.
Keith has used
the same rear lamps as I have, also from SVC plus the rectangular Lucas
reflector, as used on Hillman Imps, Part number RER
22 Reflector and chrome on brass reversing and rear fog lamp from
SVC.
Front Flashers and Side
Repeaters & Hazard.
The front flashers I used were two stainless round flashers
from Europa. These were fitted on to the bumper mounting holes using two
alloy "L" brackets I bought at a truck stop, they are used for mounting
CB aerials on to trucks and come in various sizes and designs.
These flashers were replaced with the new pedestal front flashers from SVC. Part
number L874
as can be seen in Keith's photo further up this page.
Hazard warning lamps need to be fitted and must have a warning lamp
visible to the driver, using the Sierra column set up alleviates any problems.
Side Repeaters
You can retain the Sierra side flashers
from the donor car. Be careful about positioning these, check with your
current SVA manual as they are fitted to a certain angle of
visibility. Doug fitted an extra one on the rear to be on the safe side,
but the VI examiner said it was not necessary, as Doug had achieved the
correct angle.
The side repeaters we used came from
Custom Fasteners and are lamps used on motor cycles. It was a simple case
of drilling one hole in the CBU under the windscreen fixing bolts and
fitting the lamp.
SVC also supply a rather nice round chrome Lucas side repeater Part number
6408. check with them that it is suitable for the thickness of the
GRP body and SVA test.
Other Lamps.
Rear Fog and Reversing
I also fitted two cheap
black plastic rear
fog lamps from a motoring outlet, they fitted above the rear bumper using two
"L" brackets the same as for the
front. Plus two reversing lamps underneath the bumper fitted to a bar I
made up. Rear Fog Lamps require a warning light on the
dashboard.
In Keith's photo further up this page, he used one chrome on brass
reversing lamp and one chrome on brass rear fog lamp from SVC. Part numbers
1253RC-L and 1253RF-R.
Number Plate Lamps
Are also available from SVC chrome on brass SVA approved. Chrome
plastic reversing lamps are available from other sources.
Front Spot Lamps and Fog Lamps
Fog and Spot lamps are available in chrome, chrome on brass and stainless
steel.
Regulations apply to their fitment, so do not present your Falcon for an SVA
test with these fitted.
A strong lamp bracket is available from SVC for 3/4 inch diameter badge
bars. I do not know if they make an 1 inch size.
Number Plate Holder
This rear stainless steel holder is seen on the Doug's sports above and my
1993 sports further up and has
location points fitted for the number plate lamps and wiring cable holes
drilled. Available from Europa.

All lamps must be
fitted in a vertical position and not sloping. Rear Fog lamps must be located a
minimum of 100mm (4 inches) away from a brake lamp. Rear reflectors must
be fitted a minimum height of 250mm (10 inches) away from the ground.

Who Is SVC
You will have noticed that all
the main lighting parts fitted to the various owners cars above, have all
come from one supplier. This is no accident, SVC have been supplying parts
to JBA owners since 1982 as well as all the other marques. If you are
attending any of the big kit car shows and you ask any JBA owner for their
advice about buying lamps, they will all lead you to one supplier
SVC.
Apart from excellent prices they are
very helpful with advice and help to new builders, but please pick a time
when their stand goes a bit quieter, if it ever does. I found that very
early in the morning just after their stand is put up, is an ideal time
for asking a lots of advice.
What
is so special about Stafford Vehicle Components. Their service, with a dedicated approach to customer
satisfaction, nothing is too much trouble for them. Tony Stafford with a
lifetime spent in the motor industry, started the business 25 years ago,
touring all the car shows and kit car shows and gained an enviable
reputation for quality, honesty and reliability. Tony has retired now but
you still may see him helping Steve at some of the big shows.
Steve Taylor a long standing friend of
Tony now owns the company and took over in April 2001. Steve adopts
the same approach and with a love of MG's is no stranger to the motoring
scene. You can appreciate that owning this MG TC that a man like Steve
would search for the quality parts like those made in the 1940's, if he could not find them
he made them.
They understand the kit and classic car market inside out and know
it takes time to build or refurbish a car.
In the unlikely event that you
receive a defective component and you don't know about it until you come
to fit it nine months down the line, SVC will change it for you, try doing
that with your local Ford agent.
Many of the chrome on brass headlamps, side lamps and other lamps are
manufactured on site.
This is main supplier for builders of JBA's. SVC have supplied parts to JBA
Owners in Australia.
The
one owners use most, 10% discount to JBAOC members.
All SVC prices include VAT. The
company now uses the logo SVC. More
