Now in 2010 we do not have a JBA Factory producing any vehicle that has been evaluated in any articles in the various Kit Car Press magazines or approved by VOSA BIVA testing.
Please note these are the old build pages from 1999 to 2004 when we had a JBA Factory in full production from 1982 that was regularly featured in the Kit Car Press and complied with regulations including passing UK Vosa SVA/BIVA tests and TUV tests in the EU.
A 2004 JBA Engineering Ltd Sports SR kit has passed the new BIVA test in June 2009.
This page will give you some ideas
about preparing your car for the SVA Test and How to Register your
Falcon.
It includes hints and tips from
JBA and other people who have already went through the test.
Most of the photos
down left hand side can be
enlarged by clicking on them.
The JBA Falcon has been tested to European
Regulations

There is a
new SVA Manual due out in March 2004.
This
will contain new changes, which still have to be passed
by parliament.
Now that your SVA Test is
fast approaching it is now time to prepare your Falcon. The examiner will
look for items he considers to be on the sharp side, inside and outside
the vehicle. Protruding bolts inside the interior could cause damage to
occupants in an accident. If they are on the exterior of the car they
could injure pedestrians.
Do not fit extra items such as front spot and front fog lamps, badges on
the badge bar,
interior sun visors or rear luggage racks etc. until after the SVA
Test.
The following tips about using beading, nut covers, round headed bolts
etc. have all been suggested and implemented by SVA vehicle examiners at
SVA Test Centres throughout the UK in relation to the JBA Falcon.
Where can I buy
these SVA Nut Covers. See Suppliers
Page.
Once your Falcon has passed the SVA Test, it is up to each individual
whether to leave the beading on, or remove it.
An excellent source
for keeping up to date with new SVA rules and regulations
as they happen, is Total Kit Car.Com
This online magazine is updated weekly and covers all the
latest M.o.T. Registration and SVA rules. |

Exhaust Emissions
Same as M.O.T., the Vehicle Inspectorate will require evidence of year
of manufacture of the engine installed, it will then be
tested to the relevant standards. Use Donor Log Book if engine is from
Donor Car.
Insurance
You must have your Falcon insured before you can drive
it to the SVA Test Centre.
You can insure it on the JBA
chassis number, until you receive a vehicle index mark
after the registration process.
Police
As you will be travelling to the Test centre without
any index plates on your Falcon, it is a good idea to
contact the Police Traffic Department in your area a week
before the test, advising them that you are going for an
SVA Test at a specified date, time and place, give them a
description and colour of your JBA.
This will prevent
you from being stopped on your journey, or prevent lengthy
delays if you are.
If your journey
takes you through different Police Areas, advise the
Police Traffic Department in each area.
The Day Before The
Test
Highlight the Engine number; The Chassis number with yellow tyre chalk.
What You will
Need
1) All receipts for parts purchased.
2) Registration documents for donor vehicle (if one has been used).
3) Chassis plate provided should be fitted to the bulkhead in a
prominent position.
4) The Engine number must be legible.
5) Evidence of Engine age
is required for Emission Test. (Donor Log Book).
6) The chassis number is stamped on the chassis under the front wing
and must be legible.
7) All your SVA paperwork.
8) Insurance
Certificate or Cover Note.
9) Your Build Photos (They can explain a
lot to the Examiner)
Spares & Tools
Carry a few spares with you:- Cable Ties; Spare Bulbs;
Fuses; Insulating Tape; Extra Rubber or Plastic Beading;
Nut Covers; Screws, Nuts & Bolts.
Tools:- Jack; Wheel brace; Knife; Small File;
Spanners; Screwdrivers etc.
Driving To The Test
Leave home early allow yourself plenty of time, in
case any adjustments have to be made. If travelling a fair
distance, stop and fill your tank up with fuel just before
arrival.
Fuel
The Falcon must be presented for the Test with a full
tank.
Tyre Pressures
Should be correct. JBA recommends Front 20 p.s.i.
Rear 20 p.s.i.
Arrival
On arrival at the SVA Test Centre, park up neatly away
from the inspection lanes and report to the office with
your paperwork.
You will then be asked to stay with your car until the
examiner contacts you. The test will then begin.
The examiner may allow you to rectify certain small items under
his supervision.
For details of a JBA Falcon SVA Test.
Once the Test
is completed the examiner will tell you if your Falcon has
passed. He will then tell you to park your car and report
once again to the office. Wait until your name is called
and collect your paperwork and MAC from the counter.
That's It!
Congratulations! You've Passed.
MAC
This is the Ministry Approval Certificate shown above.
You will receive one of these after your Falcon has passed
the test. This enables you to register your Falcon at your
Local VRO. Vehicle Registry Office. Previously know as
your Local Vehicle Licensing Office.

This SVA MAC
Ministry Approval Certificate is retained by the VRO and
you will not get it back. So have it photocopied and keep
two copies for your records. You will have to prove age of
engine manufacture for Future MOT.Test and this SVA MAC will
suffice. See Here.
Parts
From Write Offs
New Regulations have come into force 07-04-2003
regarding cars that have been written off by the insurance
companies. This is crime prevention scheme against car
thieves "ringing" stolen vehicles.
This can pose problems for anyone building or refurbishing
a kit.
If a kit uses a part from a written off vehicle e.g.
Sierra rear sub frame, then it may be subject to a VIC
Check at a goods vehicle test station or other
government appointed station arranged by your local
Vehicle Inspectorate. This could happen when you come to
register the kit using the Form V627/1 Built Up Vehicle
Inspection Report,
after it has passed it's SVA test. Fees apply, More
Info.

The next step is to phone your local VRO and apply for an
appointment to Register your Falcon. You will need to fill
in Form V55/5 and Form V627/1 "Built Up Vehicle
Inspection Report" Click Here
for details.
Remember that you are registering your car as a JBA
Falcon and not as the Donor on the Forms V627/1
and V55/5.
Remember on V55/5 Question 20 to write Current
Year and not the year the Donor car was registered.
On arrival at the VRO once again make sure that the engine
number and chassis number are highlighted and that the JBA
Identity Plate on the bulkhead can be easily seen. The VRO
Inspector will check over your Falcon.
What You will
Need
SVA
Ministry Approval Certificate.
Form V55/5
Fully Completed.
Form V627/1
Built Up Vehicle Inspection Report. The VRO inspector may
complete this form for you.
The Donor
Log Book that is V5 Document from Donor Vehicle or Copy if
vehicle has been scrapped.
The new certificate of newness is
required (supplied by JBA).
All receipts
for parts purchased.
Insurance
Certificate.
Registration
Fee Currently £25.00p. July 2003.
Vehicle
Excise Duty Fee for 6 or 12 months. (Road Tax).
Once the
inspection is over and the paperwork completed you will be
given a Tax Disc and an Index Number for your Falcon. Now
called a VRM (Vehicle Registration Mark).
Now you can go and have a set of Number Plates made. Enjoy your JBA Falcon.
As of 1st July 2003
an MOT will no longer be required for Three years from date of
Registration, if Question 20 on the Registration Form V55/5 is entered as
the Current Year and not with the year of the Donor Car.
An age related number will be issued.

I
have done endless trolling through the
Government web sites
to find the latest updates to rules and regulations, some
I have found.
However the Government are slow to update their information and it is thanks to Total
Kit Car Dot Com constantly pursuing these issues, that this
latest information is provided.
During your build keep checking with Total Kit Car Dot
Com as more new
rules are expected over the next few months.
Well that's
these new build pages almost finished. Hope they have been
of some help to you.
Have fun with your JBA Falcon and I look forward to
meeting you at
some of the shows.
